Pittsburgh had the most emphatic win of the series in Game 5, picking up a 7-0 win at home to take a 3-2 lead in the series. Pittsburgh has won three of the last four in this series to put Ottawa on the brink. The Penguins are 61-25-13 overall and 24-18-7 on the road while the Senators are 54-34-11 overall and 27-13-9 at home.
Pittsburgh got rolling early and never looked back in Game 5. Corey Anderson didn’t last long, giving up four goals on 14 shots. Mike Condon didn’t do much better, allowing three goals in 22 shots. Seven different players found the net in the win. Sidney Crosby had his seventh goal of the playoffs on a power play while Bryan Rust had his sixth postseason goal. Phil Kessel also got his seventh postseason goal late in the game. In net, Matt Murray made 25 saves to earn the shutout.
The Penguins have looked pretty good since putting Murray in the net. He has had a nice two-game stretch in net and the Pittsburgh scorers are finding the net again. Ottawa is outmatched on paper. This game is on their home ice, but I don’t think will be enough to stop the momentum of the Penguins. Pittsburgh is the better team and should be able to close things out tonight.
